Residents Invited to Leave Their Autos Behind and Hit the Streets Print E-mail

Cities across the country have embraced the “open streets” movement, which encourages residents to explore their neighborhoods without the use of a motor vehicle. The first suburban open streets event in the Pittsburgh area is scheduled to be held on October 17th on Brownsville Road. Our municipal Main Street will be closed to automobiles between Route 51 and the Brentwood Park entrance from 9AM to 1PM. This well-traveled urban space will be temporarily transformed into an open space for walking, biking, running, skating, exercising, dancing, shopping, socializing, and much, much more.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to take back the streets! Join us as we promote healthy and active lifestyles, green transportation options, and local businesses.

Volunteers are needed to assist the the operation of the event.  Additionally, area businesses are encouraged to participate in the program by offering recreational activities to visitors.  To enroll in either capacity, contact Stephanie Miller at 412-884-1400 x103. For more information, see the attached flyer.
